Uber is investing $300 million in Lucid and taking a stake in Nuro to launch 20,000 robotaxis, signaling its return to autonomous driving.

Lucid Group, Nuro and Uber Technologies are partnering on a next-generation premium global robotaxi program created exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform.

The robotaxi service is expected to launch in late 2026 in an unnamed "major US city," and Uber said that a prototype of an operational autonomous Lucid-Nuro vehicle is currently being tested on a closed circuit at a Nuro facility in Las Vegas.
