I can only answer this on a personal level: each attraction was different offering its own set of "wow" factors. If you only have time for 1, naturally, go for the Tower. However, we got the package and was happy we did. Time? I would allow at least 3 hours to sufficiently explore not only the Baptistery, but the Church, the Tower, and there is a Duomo Museum opposite the Square worth investigating. And depending on your tolerance for crowds (mine is very low), I'd suggest getting there during the first opening time slot. By mid-afternoon it was unbearable. Touring early then allows you time to have lunch and enjoy wandering around the city. I hope this helps. K

yes you can make a reservation to climb up the stairs inside. You do NOT get to stand outside on the top but its interesting to see and do. But as the previous poster said make advance reservations as it's really busy. ITs a beautiful area not only for the tower but the area surrounding is also very pretty too. Very enjoyable and interesting place!
