I would think it would be OK as long as the cane has the rubber protectors on the bottom. As one person noted, they are protecting the glass from being scratched and everyone …

I would think it would be OK as long as the cane has the rubber protectors on the bottom. As one person noted, they are protecting the glass from being scratched and everyone has to wear protective booties over their shoes so the glass isn't scratched by anyone's soles. Worst case, you could put one of the shoe booties over the bottom of the cane.
