This is beautiful! There is so much history here! You can walk up the biggest mound or just explore the smaller mounds. There is a museum of the area's history and the native Americans that lived the…Full review by Janet S

There is evidence here of human habitation for 12,000 years. South Appalachian Mississippian culture built the mounds around 900 AD. They left behind eight earthen mounds and the remains of a ceremon…Full review by K I

Previous responses are all valid points. Mounds themselves might be a challenge with a wheelchair but doable. The excavated floor mound with viewing Windows probably not an option as entry is low and narrow. The Visitor Center is excellent and very accessible. Combining that with some parts of the outdoor sections that are easier could be an excellent visit for a wheelchair bound person
Q:
Is it opened the day after Thanksgiving?
A:
I see no reason why it wouldn't be open the day after Thanksgiving. There is nothing on their website about it being closed. It is basically free unless there are special events.

Except for special events sponsored by the Ocmulgee National Monument Association no fees are charged to enter and visit Ocmulgee National Monument. Since my review was focused on the Spring Lantern Light Tours of the Ocmulgee Monument, I do want to express that there is a fee for this particular special event. The spring Lantern light Tours (March) an event fee of $5.00 is charged for anyone 13 years and older. This event is a very excellent event and is certainly worth the cost of $5 to be able to participate in this walking tour by lantern light led by a park ranger as he narrates and tells stories about the monument and the history of the mounds. The other very special event held at Ocmulgee National Monument that is very excellent is the Ocmulgee Indian Celebration. The Ocmulgee Indian Celebration (held on the third weekend in September) event fee is $6.00 for 13 &up, 6-12 $3.00, 5 &under are free and active military with I.D. $3.00. Again this event is a great one if you are a history buff.
