I've never seen or heard of jellyfish in that area. Although, beware of dragon fish if you're down in Kalyves and soak your foot in hot water for the sting, NOT cold water. If you have surf shoes, or slide your feet instead of stomping when going in or out....you'll be fine.

To get to the beach in Nea Chora just walk along water front from the harbour starting from the Nautical Museum side and just follow the water front and takes 10 mins. Nice part of Chania and great tavernas. The bar and restaurant around the little harbour area of fishing boats is good for food and drink. Enjoy.
