I'd like to take my son safely out on the Loch on our dinghy. Can anyone tell me where is the best place to launch from. A small shingle beach with a nearby car park would be ideal.

We'll be arriving at the Atholl Palace Hotel in August as part of a CIE coach tour. We arrive at 3:30 and if possible I'd like to walk to the dam/visitor's center, green suspension bridge and Loch Faskally and back to the hotel by 7 pm when dinner is served. Google maps is very confusing and when I type in Loch Faskally, it just shows a trail on the opposite side of the river from the main town with some trees and a glimpse of water in the background. It also has me walking past the dam visitor's center instead of stopping at it. I'd show the google maps link but it won't let me. Can someone please give me clear directions from the hotel to provide the best photo ops, save time/backtracking and avoid walking on busy highways? Do I need to access the loch from the opposite side of the river near the Pitlochry Boating Station? If I run out of time, how far do I need to walk to have some nice views of the loch? Thanks for your help.

Yes you have plenty of time to fit these in. When you arrive at your hotel they will have the local map of walks in the area which will let you make a number of choices. You could walk through the woods (black spout) and take the back roads into Pitlochry if you want a longer walk. Alternatively you can come out the main entrance of the hotel and turn right into the town and then take a left after walking through the town opposite Auld Smiddy Inn (there are footpaths and town isn't very busy). Head to the visitor centre at the dam and just before it on the right behind the car park there are lovely views of the water and there is a walk which takes you around the loch (anti-clockwise) You can also go across the dam and go up to Fonab Castle Hotel for a drink over looking the water (incredible views) and after that walk around the water in a clockwise direction crossing over the green bridge to head back towards Pitlochry otherwise you remain on the Killicrankie walk which is 22 km and you don't have time for this walk (takes 5.5 hours).
