We stayed at Pali Ke Kua and loved being so close to this beach. We really enjoyed this area as it was super quiet and peaceful. My favorite moments were walking to the lookout area and capturing t… Full review by PhxRaven_AZ

Hi! We've rented unit 114 at Pali Ke Kua in January for a week. I'm reading about the muddy trail with ropes down to the beach but I was under the impression that there is a concrete trail from the condos to Hideaway Beach. Is that so? Did you find it difficult to maneuver? We are active folks just turned 70 years old but want to be careful. Thanks! Hope to hear back from you soon.

There was no concrete trail when my husband and I were there in July 2018. The trail we took was the only trail by the Pali Ke Kua condos, that started on the right side of the tennis courts. It starts off as a very skinny dirt trail and opens up to the cliffs. There are about six or so concrete steps leading down at a steep-ish angle and corroded metal railings, which may be the concrete trail they are talking about, but that ends pretty quickly to dirt and root steps and rope. I've seen older people around your age (I believe) traverse it just fine. I would just wear good hiking shoes and be very careful if it has just rained because it will be muddy and slippery. There is another trail to the beach from the next development over, but it leads you to an adjacent beach to the right of Hideaways that is not as beautiful. Most of the shoreline is rocky and the water has rocky protrusions as well. But when the tide is low you can walk around the outcropping to get to Hideaways. The issue here is you have to make sure you go back before the tide rises otherwise you're stuck going up the steep dirt trail to leave. Though honestly going up is a lot easier than going down and the first time was the hardest. We went multiple times and it got easier and easier. We also checked out the beach by St. Regis but it was terrible for snorkeling and Hideaways was by far the clear winner in the area.
Can I get specific directions to non pay parking lot? Thank you.

AK24Mio did a great job of describing how to get there. The path down the cliff which can be rather slippery if it has rained a whole lot. After finding the beach, do be careful about entering the nearby stream after a big rainstorm even a few days before. Our son waded thru that water and contracted Leptospirosis which can be fatal if not caught in time. The feral pigs in the moutains are carriers of the disease and if one has a scratch, cut or gets the infected water in their eyes one can become very ill. We visited the beach after a 3 day rainstorm and our son waded thru the water showed symptoms after we returned to the mainland a couple of days later. Luckily, I called Kauai's Department of Health and asked them if there was any kind of disease going around. They asked if he had been in the stream (ocean water is fine) and when I said yes they said to get him to an infectuous disease specialist immediately as Lepto can be fatal or one can lose arms, legs and can die if not treated promptly. We were very lucky as we caught it just in time and he made a full recovery!
